Follow the colors and details in the reference. Start with the background, add the main motifs, then refine the outlines and small details.

Dotting Tools — Optional Reference

Use this guide only for dots, dotted centers, dot petals or stippling shown in the design. Keep the design’s own colors, placement and counts. Do not add dots to artwork that does not call for them.

Tools and sizes

Small ball: about 0.5–1 mm for tiny dots, flower centers and fine trails. Medium ball: about 1–1.5 mm for regular dots and small round petals. Large ball: about 2 mm for larger dots or petals when shown. These are suggested ball sizes, not exact finished dot measurements. Pressure, paint thickness and loading change the result; test on a spare practice tip.

1. Prepare

Finish the background and let it dry or cure as the product requires. Put a small amount of the specified design color on a palette. Dip only the ball tip and remove any hanging blob.

2. Make clean dots

Hold the tool at about 90 degrees to the nail. Touch lightly and lift straight up without sliding. Reload for each equal-sized dot. For a shrinking trail, make successive touches without reloading. Follow the spacing in the reference and avoid flooding the surface.

3. Make dot flowers when shown

Place the petal dots around an open center, following the design’s petal count and layout. Dry or cure as directed, then add the center in its specified color. Use a fine liner to pull wet dots inward only when the reference shows teardrop petals; round petals can stay round.

4. Change colors

Wipe the ball clean between colors using a cleaner approved for your products. Reload a small amount and test again. Keep the tool clean to prevent muddy colors and uneven dots.

5. Finish

Allow the dots to dry or cure according to the product instructions before applying compatible top coat. Keep the dots thin and avoid dragging the brush through wet artwork.

Draw with your finger, mouse or compatible stylus.
